I have actually really enjoyed the writing portions of this class - more so than I thought I would! Like I mentioned in the previous post, most of the writing I have to partake in is scientific writing, so I don't ever have the opportunity to write "for fun". This class has given me an opportunity to write more abstract pieces, using my imagination rather than the true facts that I have to look at each day in lab and class. Needless to say, it's been a nice little break!
It's hard to say exactly what type of strategies I've used when writing the stories; a lot of the stories I have written so far have just kind of come to me. Most of the stories I've created have all had an increase in dialogue or an alternate ending. I've really enjoyed the feedback from both you and the other students. I am normally pretty strong in grammar, but it's always nice for a nice refresher! (Especially with dialogue and more narrative style of writing that I haven't done in years!) And although many of the stories have come to me fairly easily, there have been plenty of times that I have also had the dreaded writer's block. It's hard to say exactly how I am able to overcome it, but I usually back away from the computer and take a minute to really think about how I could come up with an idea, and usually that gets the creative juices flowing!
I chose to include the picture from week 3 storytelling: The Wedding Feast of Cupid and Psyche by Giulio Romano. I think this is such a beautiful painting, and it gives a visual representation of a very important part of the story. I loved it!
Hi MaKenzi!
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that you have this class as a creative outlet. I haven't done much scientific writing, but I'm sure you don't get to do much creative storytelling. I am similar in my strategy for writing. I don't have a specific approach because the stories just come to me. Like you, I get inspired and just go with it! I also really value the feedback that we get in this class. It is the first time I have had this much feedback from not only the professor, but our fellow classmates. I like the picture that your chose for this post. It really is a beautiful painting!
